Perhaps you have tried to implement
hydroponic plans and you were not successful because of your choice of the hydroponic system. You should not despair because there is an effective system that can be easily setup as your
homemade hydroponics system.
There are many hydroponic systems that you can choose from but the easiest and the most practical of these is the ebb and flow approach. The wick system is very simple but is not appropriate for big plants. The aeroponic setup may be too complicated because of the technological requirements of installing a mist nozzle to spray the nutrients to the roots at exact intervals. The timer and the ph nutrients are always monitored to ensure the effective implementation of the hydroponics setup. This is not easy to do.
The ebb and flow approach requires the flooding of your grow tray with the required nutrient solution and then after some time, draining of the tray will follow. Generally, what can make this possible is the presence of a pump that connects to the timer, triggering the flooding and the draining of water.
For a homemade implementation of ebb and flow system, you need two plastic storage bins, an air pump, timer, water pump, a set of fittings for the flooding and draining process, and a plastic tube.
The first bin should be dark-colored so that the nutrient will not be affected by light. You should put the air pump and the water pump in this reservoir, with the water pump moving a 3-ft water height and with a movement of 100 gallons per hour.
The second bin is for the plant containers with either clay pellets or stones. You should first drill the flood and drain holes and install the fitting in one hole and an overflow fitting in the other hole. Connect this to a piece of tubing coming from the water pump and going to the flood and drain connection.
You are almost done with your homemade hydroponic setup. The only thing left is to set the timer for the flood and drain schedule. Then, you can now fill the nutrient bin with the solution and flood your plant bin four times a day for half an hour with the lights on.
This is a simple homemade hydroponic assembly that you can implement successfully at home. The only thing that makes it consistently work is your commitment to monitor and ensure that all the required processes are done.
